How young can students be for private lessons?
Students can start as young as 3 years old. Choices for students this you are typically piano, guitar and voice. Drums usually 4-5 years of age.
How long does it take to learn an instrument?
Playing music is like learning a language. Like languages may take year to perfect.
Do I need to own an instrument?
Students need to have an instrument at home to practice.
For piano a keyboard is a good start since the investment will be far less than a piano.
For guitar either an acoustic or electric is good. Make sure to buy the guitar at a music store (or at the school), to insure that the instrument is of good quality for beginners to practice on.
Drummers may start lesson with as little as a drum pad but after a few lessons most like would need a drum kit for practice.
Acoustic or electric, which one is better to start on?
Either one is fine. Notes and chords are identical on both. When students prefer to play Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal usually electric guitar is the choice. Please note that electric guitar will need an amplifier as well.
Preparation for Royal Conservatory Exams.
At the Rock School we have teachers that can prepare students for exams at the nationally accredited Royal Conservatory of Music. The Successful completion of grade 8 or higher can equal a credit in music in high School.
When do lessons start?
At The Rock School lessons are on going. This means that you can start at anytime. We also have lessons running all summer.
Do you have scheduled concerts and performances?
At The Rock School we have 2 scheduled concerts a year (winter and spring). Also since the Rock School is involved in the community, we have other events that students have opportunities to perform at. Some of our past events have been Bramptons Farmers Market, Brampton Fall Fair, and The Rotary Clubs Rib n’ Roll.
